Can You Extend Your Stay in a Tokyo Monthly Apartment?
Thinking of staying longer in Tokyo? Check the room, new price, confirmation process and the rest of your travel plans before extending.
Written by Hive Heaven

If you want more time in Tokyo, check the availability of your current room and the price for the extra dates first. Being in the apartment does not automatically reserve the nights after your planned departure. The favourite café can wait a moment while you line up the accommodation, travel arrangements and permission relevant to your stay.
Wanting another week is easy. A good extension makes the calendar work as well as the idea.

Can you keep the same room?
Another booking may begin after your scheduled checkout. Send your preferred new departure date and any flexibility. If a different unit is offered, check the moving time, luggage arrangements and differences in beds or equipment. Even a move within the building takes some effort. Decide whether that alternative still gives you the settled feeling you wanted from an extension.
Will the extra nights use the original nightly average?
Do not assume that dividing your original total by its nights produces the extension rate. Ask for the added amount, any applicable charges, payment timing and change terms. A conversation about possible availability is not the same as a confirmed booking. Check how the updated dates and payment status will appear in your reservation before treating the extra stay as settled.

What else needs to move with the checkout date?
Review your flight, travel cover, other accommodation and personal commitments. Extending a room does not extend your permitted time in Japan or change which activities you may undertake. Confirm any uncertainty with the relevant authorities. The accommodation is one part of the plan, not a shortcut around the conditions that apply to your trip.

How should you ask HIVEN?
Contact HIVEN before your original departure date with the reservation reference and the extra dates you want. Until the change is confirmed, continue to plan around the existing checkout. Compare keeping the unit, moving to another unit and booking elsewhere if necessary. Having alternatives makes the decision calmer than waiting until your suitcase is already beside the door.
Frequently asked questions
Do current guests automatically get extension priority?
Do not assume so; availability and the applicable conditions must be confirmed.
Will the rate stay the same?
Request a quote for the added dates and its payment terms.
Could an extension mean changing rooms?
It may, if an alternative is offered. Check the move and the new room’s setup.
Does a longer reservation extend immigration permission?
No. Accommodation and permission to remain or work are separate matters.
