29, 30 or 31 Nights in Tokyo? Get the Calendar Right Before You Book
Use a December-to-January example to count Tokyo accommodation nights, distinguish four weeks from 29 nights and avoid an arrival-day mismatch.
Written by Hive Heaven

Check in on 20 December 2026 and check out on 18 January 2027, and you have a 29-night stay. Count the nights between those dates; checkout day does not add another night. Before booking your month in Tokyo, put the accommodation dates beside your flights and check that they match.
Check when you need the room, as well as how many nights you want to book.

How do 29, 30 and 31 nights compare?
Starting on 20 December, checkout on 18 January means 29 nights; 19 January means 30; and 20 January means 31. You are not booking the night of your checkout date. These are calculation examples, not available dates or special offers. If it helps, mark your first night and last night on a calendar, then count the nights in between.
Does four weeks meet a 29-night requirement?
Four weeks is 28 days. If you check in on 20 December and leave four weeks later, on 17 January, that is a 28-night stay. HIVEN Residence currently lists a minimum stay of 29 nights, so check how that fits your plans. Before adding a night just to meet the minimum, look at what it would mean for your flights and the rest of the trip.

What if your flight arrives early in the morning?
Suppose your flight lands early on 20 December and you want to go straight to your room. A booking that starts at the usual check-in time that afternoon may still leave you waiting. Tell the property when you will arrive and ask whether you need to book the night of 19 December. If you do, make sure they know you will arrive the following morning and confirm how you will get in. Paying for the previous night does not automatically settle those arrangements. A late flight home also does not extend your checkout time.

What should you check before paying?
Write down your arrival date in Japan, the first time you need access to the room and your checkout date, using Japan’s local dates and times. Tell the property if someone in your group will arrive on a different day. Use these dates in the search and check them again on the final booking summary. When comparing two quotes, make sure both cover the same stay.
