A Month in Tokyo for Two: What If You Both Use a Laptop?
For two people working during a Tokyo stay, check more than Wi-Fi: simultaneous seating, calls, time zones and somewhere to eat when the laptops close.
Written by Hive Heaven

If both of you plan to use laptops during a Tokyo stay, check where you will sit at the same time and how calls will work. Internet alone does not create two workspaces. Picture an ordinary Monday rather than the holiday photograph: that is when table size, chairs and different schedules start to matter.
A useful shared workspace has room for two routines, not just two computers.

When do your schedules overlap?
Write down focused work, meetings and rest periods for each person. A video call beside someone drafting a document can create noise and background problems even when you get along perfectly. Check time differences for the actual travel dates. Include the hours when one person is off duty; relaxing should not mean being trapped silently behind the other person’s screen.
What should you ask about the furniture and connection?
Confirm table dimensions, seating, power access and the available connection. Internet included is not a guarantee of a particular speed or compatibility with company systems. Review your employer’s security requirements and any backup arrangements for essential tasks. A laptop pictured in a corner does not establish that the setup will be comfortable for a full working day.

Should you identify an alternative workspace?
Research a suitable coworking option for overlapping meetings if needed. Check its actual hours, booking requirements, call facilities and cost. Do not assume a café provides a quiet meeting room or welcomes lengthy laptop use. A HIVEN apartment reservation should not be treated as including a coworking membership or meeting room unless that is explicitly confirmed.

What else needs agreement before the trip?
Accommodation provision and permission to carry out work in Japan are separate questions. Check official conditions relevant to your nationality and activities, along with your employer’s approval. Ask HIVEN about the practical setup of the actual unit. Finally, make sure the laptops can be put away and dinner can happen. A shared month needs somewhere to stop working too.
Frequently asked questions
Is Wi-Fi enough for two people to work?
No. Seating, calls, schedules and technical requirements also matter.
Are two desks guaranteed?
Confirm the furniture in the specific unit rather than assuming it.
Can a café be our meeting room?
Only use spaces in ways their rules permit; find appropriate call facilities when needed.
Does booking a room permit remote work in Japan?
No. Check immigration, activity and employment conditions separately.
